The Penn State Alumni Association

What’s been happening:

The years after Penn State I had worked at Stauffer's of Kissel Hill in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania as a manager of a garden center and Mostardi's Nursery in Newtown Square, Pa. as a landscape designer. While at Mostardi's I designed the 1982, 1983, and 1984 exhibits at the Philadelphia Flower Show. In 1984 I started a landscape business. I have been teaching horticulture for over thirty years at Haverford Adult School, Delaware County Community College, and Neumann College. Since many of my family were involved on the Underground Railroad in Pennsylvania, I lecture about my Garrett family and many others on the network to freedom in Pennsylvania, Delaware, and New Jersey. I have lectured at many colleges, schools, churches, and have appeared on TV and radio. In 2009 the National Park Service Network to Freedom accepted my application for Riverview Farms as a site on the Underground Railroad. Riverview Farms [ now part of Arlington Cemetery], located in Drexel Hill Pennsylvania, is where Thomas Garrett spent his first thirty-three years before moving to Wilmington, Delaware. His children, brothers and cousins were also involved on the UGRR in Pennsylvania and Delaware. Nancy and I have been married for 38 years. We have four children and eight grandchildren.
